GED stands for General Educational Development, though it is sometimes referred to as General Education Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma, and Graduate Equivalency Degree. It is a test administered by the American Council on Education that measures a person’s academic, intellectual and critical-thinking skills. If a person passes the test, they are commonly referred to as having a GED diploma, which is roughly equivalent to a high school diploma.
